Maxime TOURATIER
In residency at the Haus der Architectur in Austria.artistic project
The proposed project will be developed in the city of Graz, Austria, and will involve a number of historical districts chosen for the tourists attraction and their architecture. The aim is to make the atmosphere of the city visible and palpable by using and reworking the forms and functions of photography. This will involve a two-pronged approach :
indoor exhibit showing dark rooms and disposable cameras, using plans and plaster moulds
construction of these rooms to actual scale in various parts of the city (around 2 to 3m in height), with the pinhole pointing towards the sky.
residence
Maxime Touratier found incredible cultural effervescence in Graz, despite the relative small size of the city. He also noted residents' great interest in artistic work from Eastern and Central Europe, bolstered by the city’s close proximity to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. The residency programme was further enriched by meetings with those involved in the local Austrian art community, including gallery owners, artists, critics, and those working in related cultural sectors.
Through photographic/topographic research, spatial simulations and models, Maxime Touratier has created an ambitious architectural project, which should lead to the development and publishing of a CD-ROM.
