Paula KANE
In residency at ESAPV (Ecole Supérieure des Arts Plastiques et Visuels) in Belgium.artistic project
As a resident artist in Mons, Paula Kane has produced large idealised landscapes inspired by art history, popular culture and her own imagination. These works bear the mark of museums, post-industrial mining landscapes from southern Belgium, books and children’s television programmes that have strongly influenced the artist during her residency. Her viewpoint is that of a cultural tourist, a city dweller in search of a timeless, distant, unknown landscape seen only in dreams. Her work reflects our own search for identity, for a place that each of us would like to call home.
residence
Following her residency, Paula Kane’s work will be shown at the Museum of Fine Arts in Mons. A catalogue is already available through specialist art publisher, based in Brussels, La Lettre Volée . The references and information discovered during her residency have taught the artist to be more reactive and selective in constructing her own images.
