In residency at the Haus der Architectur in Austria.artistic project
Ulrike Brückner was offered by Pépinières the assignment to design the CI, poster, flyers, and program for the event of the forum MAP IN GRAZ in July. For this the artist developed the concept "SPACE FOR". SPACE FOR takes into consideration the purpose of the map-programs, to be a platform and spring board for young artist where the forum acts as the space. Ulrike Brückner came up with the idea to work with a place holder. A place holder, a person confronts a form where a photo should be pasted when a parking place should be reserved for…., when a place is reserved for…
Space for easily allows a variety of labels to be adapted for the contents of the map-program : Space for : a young artist / space for : young art / space for : ideas / space for : creativity / space for : me / space for : you / space for : new concepts / space for : communication / space for : new directions etc. Through the media design a white, empty box is taken (instead of a photo or a illustration) which suggests to be filled up, holds a place free and therefore stands out from the overflow of every day picture information. An important part of the CI is also the flyer with the place reserved stickers which a person can be distributed throughout the city. Through the implementation of the sticker in public space the event take on new meanings. By this mean, the forum enters into a dialog with the city.
On one side, Ulrike Brückner wanted modern and young work in the choice of colour and typography and on the other side, to proceed towards a solid concept to express the purpose and the fundamental idea of the forum.
For her, young art means progress, in the search for something new and challenging, provocative and self conscious.

residence
During her residence, Ulrike Brückner received a great deal of support from Sabine Reisner, Ulla Meister and Oran Kipcak (Pépinières Östereich). With their courageous engagement she easily integrated the context of the purpose of the map-program. The collaboration functioned very well. The residence in Graz, in the time of the culture capital, Europe 2003 was and is inspiring. She had a good contact and exchange with others artists.
