On May 14th, canadian dancer Justine Parisien and the (LA)HORDE Collective auditionned and selected eleven dancers for a jumpstyle residency project. The Pépinières Fabric has already hosted four workshops in order for them to imagine a choregraphic jumpstyle performance.
The performance will be presented on June 21st at the Pépinières Fabric for the event 155 BPM.
Justine Parisien-Dumais studied dance at the Montréal Contemporary Dance School. There, she practiced many styles and got introduced to urban dances. In 2014, she worked on the Incubator Projects with Sovann Rochon-Promptep. In May 2015, she got involved on our MAP Program for the residency of the (LA)HORDE Collective. The Pépinières thus invited her to present the piece « Avant les gens mourraient ». She is now researching on the possibilities of expression that bodies allow, however trying to show their vulnerabilities.
DU DERNIER ÉTAGE
12th edition of “Young creation video-cinema” in the framework of the FIPA (International Festival of Audiovisual Programmes) 19-24 January 2016 in Biarritz, France
SCREENING : Wednesday, 20 January from 4:30 to 6:30pm
Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes pursue their discovery of young creation by opening up their research fields to all forms of expression that renew cinematic creation.
Regardless of the education path they have followed - cinema schools, visual or digital arts schools or any other artistic field - all young filmmakers presented in the framework of the “Young creation video-cinema” programme propose an original point of view and approach that requires reflexion and surprises us.
At the occasion of the programme’s 12th edition, Pépinières will present a selection of eight short films that reveal the evolutions of today’s creation.
2016 will be marked by an exceptional event: the screening will open with the presentation of the film “Ellis” by the artist JR starring Robert De Niro, taking place on Ellis Island.
As a proof of the faithful collaboration between Pépinières and the FIPA, this 2016 edition innovates with the entry of the “Young creation video-cinema” selection into the competition for the Mitrani prize, which rewards one film for its innovative and singular approach.
THE COMPAGNIE DU
On Thursdays, 14th January at 9pm, the Companie du Dernier Etage will present its last creation « About the postcard, I would have preferred the Virgin Mary in pijamas ». The underlying portrait of a teenage girl through her correspondance.
This time, these young and talented artists will base their work on a textual matter: letters. These letters are those Louise Bataillon, director, have received from friends of hers who were discovering love, relating to their days in secondary school, crudely sharing their questions, as deep and touching as clumsily expressed; from her relatives too - her father who lived in Mexico for a time, her mother who, when she was on holiday far away, seemed to miss one arm, her grandparents who, while she was growing up, still pictured her as a little girl marveling at animals, her older sister, her aunts…
These are her letters, but they could have been those of many young ladies and thus they echo a generation that witnessed the advent of mobile phones and the Internet, the triumph of Harry Potter, the fashion of dog-collar necklaces and Avril Lavigne, the multiplication of divorces, the banalization of reconstituted families…
These touching letters approach various questions: the transformation (or non-transformation, despite the years going by) of the link between parents and their chid, the adolescent’s thirst for emancipation, their relation to school, first love emotions, disillusioned hopes, the rejection of authority are timeless, unchangeable, no matter the period, the social profile and the place.
The Comapagnie du Dernier Etage proposes an amused and tender approach to adolescence, progressively describing the features of a young girl, without ever accessing her voice and thus comprehending, in a convoluted way, the various sides of a personality that appears through the letters and words addressed to her.
THE TROUPE’S HISTORY:
The Compagnie du Dernier Etage was born at the occasion of its first collective creation: « Étude du premier amour » (« Study of the First Love »).
It now gathers the director Louise Bataillon and four actors: Jordan Besnainou, Camille Faye, Nicolas Hardy and Noëllie Thibault, as well as the visual artist Anouk Rabot, the light designer Clémentine Gaud et the stage designer Carine Ravaud.
They propose an energy that is close to what one can observe in playgrounds, where the expression of imagination sets a framework that all those who witness its creation can agree to, and enables a direct contact with the audience.
The troupe’s name relates to the fact that they started rehearsing on rooftops. Beautiful stories always have their hight, theirs was on the last floor, without a lift.

Difficult to escape: souvenir shops in the most diverse businesses, stations at airports, tourist information offices in the receptions of hotels, postcards are everywhere and have the largest number of points of sale in the world. Symbol of mobility, the postcard becomes, within the framework of this exhibition, the artistic object.
Supported by the European Commission for their IN Networking program, Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artists wish to re-activate the links with its members, expand their influence and assert their European commitment.
« CACHET DE LA POSTE FAISANT FOI» (« DATE AS PER POSTMARK ») is an exhibition that will take place from 11th to 25th January 2016 at the Villa Mallet- Stevens, the architect’s former workshop and emblematic venue, which will host all Pépinières artists on its walls.
Pépinières invite the artists to take possession of a postcard in the way that suits them best (drawing, collage, engraving, printing or any other surprising idea) and offer them to promote one or two artists of your choice by giving him a postcard. All postcards sent before the 6th of January (date of postmark) will be exhibited at the Hippocrène Foundation - Villa Mallet-Stevens.
Generous and unifying project, " Date as per postmark " is imagined as a recovery of the written and artistic expression through the postcard object and through the intervention of artists, creative vectors of exchange and sharing.
En partenariat avec les Pépinières Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes, TRADE SCHOOL PARIS est de retour à la Maison de l'Arbre pour 3 dates supplémentaires les mercredi 18, 25 novembre et 2 décembre prochains.
